Hello Bloggers. I hope you have found the time to read my 'short' profile, and that you found it to be of some interest. You will recall that I worked in Saudi Arabia for a long time and it used to make my blood boil when I heard of terrible things happening to British people (men and women) whilst trying to live as normal and quiet a life as possible over there. I knew quite a few people working for British Aerospace - most of whom were ex-military from the U.K. They didn't live in normal houses like you and I, they lived in huge compounds, as did the Americans, where everything was provided for them and there was no real need to go outside the compounds. But many men enjoyed running, hiking and cycling outside the compounds at the weekend just to feel the fresh air and relax with their friends, and the main roads (which are very wide) are very quiet on a Friday which is their best time to cycle. One man I knew called Dave lived to ride his bike on a Friday and couldn't wait to get out of the compound and ride or race with his friends whenever he could - he was very fit and in his late 50's.. But in all the time I was there I never once heard "on the grapevine" of any malicious attacks by Saudi nationals towards British cyclists when riding on main roads. I know they would have taken every precaution to avoid any accidents as it would have meant instant jail if they hit anyone, loss of job and repatriation to the U.K. shortly afterwards, so I know they would have been very careful whilst riding..
For this to happen is diabolical and yet I know the story will be dead and buried by now in Saudi - if it ever got published in the Government-controlled Saudi papers at all. You will probably know that the British media are (allegedly) paid by Saudi Arabia to keep all bad news off the airwaves. And if something bad happens here in the U.K. you can bet your life it will only be covered for a short time before being buried for good. His widow may have got some compensation before she left, and will no doubt have been told to keep quiet about it for fear of upsetting the good relations between the UK and Saudi Arabia. You will note upon reading this that our Government have made no demands on Saudi Arabia to find and punish the killers.
